City of Chicago Proposing Special Tax on Bottled Water

I thought this might be of interest to the class. A proposal has been made in Chicago to institute a special tax on bottled water, largely due to environmental concerns. Below is a link to an op-ed piece in today's Chicago Tribune about the proposal.

It would be great to hear what people in the class think about this.

thanks for posting! This is such an interesting issue and my mind is not made up. What is certain is that somehow we as consumers do need to realize that the same amount of material waste goes into a bottle whether or not you recycle it. Its nice that it doesn't end up in a landfill, but the energy to create, ship, and sell the product outweigh that in my opinion. So, maybe this will change people's attitudes? I'm mainly responding to the arguement that the tax wouldn't be necessary if more people recycled ...
